Vhernier Reimagines Signature 'Freccia' Collection as Exquisite High Jewelry

A Familiar Motif, Elevated
Italian jewelry maison Vhernier has unveiled its latest high jewelry collection, breathing new life into its beloved 'Freccia' line. First launched in 2014, the 'Freccia' collection—meaning 'arrow' in Italian—is defined by its signature modular repetition of a triangular element, symbolizing ideal balance and harmony. Vhernier's Creative Director, Isabella Traglio, has transformed these fine designs into five unique, ultra-luxury sets, pushing the boundaries of the collection's recognizable design code.
Sculptural Forms Meet Precious Materials
The high jewelry creations take the iconic triangular motif and render it in sculptural white gold with a mirror-polished finish. Each element is meticulously detailed, either left in polished metal, accented with diamonds in a two-prong pavé setting, or enhanced with Vhernier's proprietary 'Trasparenze' technique. This innovative method involves layering colored gemstones beneath a dome of polished rock crystal, creating rich, shifting hues and a chromatic effect that is both subtle and captivating.
A Symphony of Gemstones and Craftsmanship
The new 'Freccia' high jewelry collection is thoughtfully divided into five distinct sets. Four of these sets highlight different colored gemstones, while a fifth showcases full diamond pavé. The gemstone sets feature combinations of black jade, green jade, or lapis lazuli, artfully layered with mother-of-pearl and rock crystal. Another option focuses purely on mother-of-pearl and rock crystal. Vhernier emphasizes that the collection's modular repetition and interplay of finishes convey a sense of energy and sensuality, with sculptural forms achieved through technically complex craftsmanship.
Innovation in Color and Design
A key challenge in developing this collection was achieving both pastel and intense colors. Vhernier's master jewelers achieved this by placing hand-sculpted rock crystal over a translucent layer of mother-of-pearl, which in turn covers the colored gemstones. Isabella Traglio noted that for this collection, the colors needed to be softer and more delicate than Vhernier's typically strong palettes. She shared that the combination of black jade with mother-of-pearl, resulting in a mysterious grey hue, was particularly successful. Initially, abalone shell was considered for a lapis lazuli effect, but it created an unexpected wavy texture under rock crystal, leading to the substitution with lapis.
Wearability and Artistic Expression
Vhernier's high jewelry pieces reflect the maison's dedication to combining fluid volumes with ergonomic construction, prioritizing simplicity of form achieved through intricate processes. The design philosophy ensures each creation balances wearability with artistic expression. Even statement pieces like the earrings are engineered for comfort, with hollowed interiors and carefully studied weight distribution. The inclusion of small holes on the back of pieces is a testament to this precision, allowing for the polishing of the interior surfaces to maximize the diamonds' sparkle.
Global Expansion and Enduring Appeal
The launch of the 'Freccia' high jewelry collection coincides with Vhernier's significant expansion, including new boutiques in Beijing and Shanghai. This elevated offering reinforces the brand's identity in the ultra-luxury segment and aligns with a broader trend among luxury houses to transform established commercial collections into exclusive, high-value creations. By building on existing design language, Vhernier strengthens brand recognition while catering to the demand for collectible, one-of-a-kind pieces in the high jewelry market. The collection, which debuted earlier this month, is available for viewing on the Vhernier website.
