Springer's Jewelers Embarks on New Era with Flagship Store Focused on Experiential Luxury

Springer's Jewelers, a 155-year-old family-owned business, is set to open a new flagship location in Portland, Maine, in spring 2027. This significant investment signals a strategic evolution in its approach to luxury retail, aiming to cater to the desires of next-generation shoppers by emphasizing immersive experiences, personalized service, and strong client relationships.
A Strategic Relocation and Expansion
The jeweler will move from its current Congress Street store to a new, expanded space at 455 Fore Street in the city's vibrant Old Port neighborhood. This new location will span just over 5,900 square feet, nearly tripling the size of its existing 2,200-square-foot store. This move represents a commitment to downtown Portland's retail and hospitality sector, reinforcing the company's presence among the independent retailers and cultural institutions of the Old Port district.
Redefining Luxury for a New Generation
Under the leadership of fourth-generation CEO Lilly Mullen, the first woman to head the company, Springer's Jewelers is prioritizing a modern vision of luxury. Mullen stated, 'We’re thinking deeply about what luxury means today. It’s no longer just about product—it’s about how people feel when they walk through the door. We want every interaction to feel personal, thoughtful, and memorable.' The new flagship is designed to embody this philosophy, moving beyond transactional sales to foster a hospitality-driven client experience centered on comfort, trust, discovery, and lasting relationships.
The store's design will artfully blend historic architectural influences with a contemporary retail environment, drawing inspiration from Maine's coastal and architectural character. 'Care has always been part of our DNA,' Mullen noted. 'What’s changing is how intentionally we design experiences around it.' Associates will be encouraged to create meaningful moments that elevate the retail experience beyond the ordinary.
Commitment to Independent Retail
In an industry marked by consolidation, Springer's Jewelers' investment in a new, larger flagship underscores its dedication to independent, family-owned luxury retail. 'For more than 155 years, our business has grown through relationships and trust,' Mullen said. 'This investment is about building a company that continues to thrive for generations to come.' The relocation and redesign are intended to build upon the neighborhood's established business community while modernizing the company's luxury retail offering and maintaining its deep connection to Portland.
Springer's Jewelers also operates locations in Bath, Maine, and Portsmouth, New Hampshire. The new Portland flagship represents a significant step in the company's ongoing journey of thoughtful growth, balancing its rich legacy with forward-thinking innovation.
