Signet Jewelers to Integrate The Clear Cut into Blue Nile

Jewelry giant Signet Jewelers Ltd. has announced its agreement to purchase The Clear Cut, an online jeweler focused on natural diamonds. The acquisition is set to integrate The Clear Cut into Blue Nile, a move Signet acquired in 2022. This strategic acquisition aims to enhance Signet’s capabilities in high-value natural diamond sales and further its repositioning strategy for its luxury brands.

The deal, expected to close within days, was described by Signet Chief Financial Officer Joan Hilson as a “tuck-in investment focused on enhancing Signet’s capabilities in high-value natural diamonds.” The purchase price remains undisclosed, and the acquisition will be funded through existing cash reserves without impacting Signet’s capital allocation priorities.

Bolstering Luxury and Digital Innovation

The Clear Cut, founded by Olivia Landau and her husband Kyle Simon, has gained recognition for its focus on natural diamonds, educational content, and a personalized customer approach. Landau, who will continue to lead The Clear Cut as president post-acquisition, also plans to drive digital innovation across Signet’s portfolio. This includes leveraging The Clear Cut’s proprietary AI platform, Eunice, and its technology, Gem by The Clear Cut.

“Our data continues to show that natural diamonds remain a powerful emotional purchase and represent a compelling growth opportunity within Grow Brand Love,” Hilson stated. “This move strengthens our ability to differentiate our brands, deepen consumer trust, and compete more effectively in the natural diamond category.”

Signet intends to leverage The Clear Cut’s expertise to elevate Blue Nile’s position in the premium market. Hilson noted that 39% of Blue Nile’s bridal transactions in 2025 were $10,000 or above, and with The Clear Cut, Signet aims to grow this segment. The Clear Cut’s average order value reportedly rose to $30,000 between 2023 and 2025.

Strategic Integration and Future Vision

The acquisition aligns with Signet’s broader “Grow Brand Love” strategy, which includes repositioning Blue Nile as a more upscale brand focused on natural diamonds. This initiative also saw the closure of James Allen. The integration of The Clear Cut is expected to strengthen Blue Nile’s elevated luxury positioning, particularly for customers at the premium end of the market.

“Bringing on proven expertise via The Clear Cut team will allow us to accelerate our natural-diamond leadership and invest in a more elevated, differentiated customer experience,” Hilson added. The Clear Cut’s “white-glove customer approach,” virtual concierge services, certified gemologist expertise, and proprietary AI technology are key assets that will be integrated.

Olivia Landau expressed her enthusiasm for the partnership, stating, “What began nearly a decade ago as an educational platform focused on transparency has grown into a business redefining the diamond-buying experience through personalization, technology, and trust. We believe the future of luxury jewelry retail is personalized, digitally enabled, and relationship-driven. Working alongside Blue Nile and Signet would help us scale that vision while continuing to champion transparency, innovation, and the value of natural diamonds.”

While The Clear Cut’s name will be maintained, its standalone website will eventually cease to exist as it becomes fully integrated into Blue Nile. The announcement was made shortly before the Luxury and JCK Las Vegas trade shows.
