Metalor Technologies Acquires Gannon & Scott, Bolstering Precious Metals Refining Capabilities

Strategic Integration Enhances Global Reach and Service Offerings
Metalor Technologies, a TANAKA company and a global leader in precious metals refining, advanced materials, and specialty chemicals, has successfully completed its acquisition of Gannon & Scott, a prominent North American provider of precious metal refining and materials recovery services. The transaction, finalized on February 27, 2026, unites Gannon & Scott’s established expertise with Metalor Technologies’ extensive global network, creating a more robust and comprehensive offering for customers worldwide.
Founded in 1919 and headquartered in Cranston, Rhode Island, Gannon & Scott has built a strong reputation for secure and environmentally responsible refining solutions. The company serves a diverse range of industries, including electronics, semiconductor production, electroplating, wafer fabrication, aerospace, medical devices, and jewelry manufacturing. Gannon & Scott specializes in the recovery and refining of gold, silver, platinum, palladium, and rhodium, utilizing advanced technologies such as thermal reduction, induction melting, and sophisticated chemical and analytical capabilities to maximize precious metal yields and ensure certified destruction of intellectual property.
Synergies and Expanded Offerings for Customers
The integration of Gannon & Scott into Metalor Technologies promises significant benefits for customers. These include expanded refining capabilities across a wider spectrum of precious metals, such as iridium and ruthenium, facilitated by enhanced global sourcing and recycling channels. Customers will also gain access to high-purity precious metals, technical products, compounds, and chemicals, supported by Metalor’s international laboratories and research and development network.
Christopher Jones, President of Gannon & Scott, expressed enthusiasm for the partnership, stating, “We are thrilled to become part of an organization that shares our commitment to innovation, customer success, and sustainable growth. This partnership allows us to build on our strengths while gaining new resources and opportunities. Together, we are well positioned to deliver even greater results for our customers, employees, and partners.”
Joe Peixoto, CEO of Gannon & Scott, added, “It opens the door to new capabilities, new markets, and new professional development opportunities for our employees. Our customers can be assured that the high level of service, trust, and security they’ve always relied on will remain unchanged — now strengthened by access to a broader suite of products and services.”
Metalor Technologies, headquartered in Switzerland, operates globally with a significant presence in Europe, Asia, and the Americas. The acquisition strengthens Metalor’s strategic position in North America, particularly in the crucial areas of secondary refining and the responsible recycling of complex materials like electronic waste. This move aligns with the broader TANAKA group’s commitment to sustainable sourcing, operational excellence, and long-term customer partnerships.
Continuity and Strategic Growth
Nicolas Carrera, CEO of Metalor Technologies, highlighted the strategic importance of the acquisition. “The acquisition of Gannon & Scott, the most reputable secondary refiner in the United States, represents a strategic step in strengthening Metalor Technologies’ vertical integration,” Carrera stated. “By securing direct access to low-grade materials such as electronic waste, we reinforce our commitment to sustainable sourcing and responsible recycling of precious metals, while expanding our ability to serve customers and partners with greater efficiency and environmental responsibility.”
The integration will also bolster Metalor’s refining capabilities in the United States, especially with the recent commencement of Platinum Group Metal (PGM) refining. Dr. Yuxing Shang, President of Metalor Technologies’ Refining Group, noted, “This integration allows us to expand the range of services we can offer to both current and future customers in North America, combining advanced capabilities with the trusted expertise of Gannon & Scott.”
To ensure a smooth transition and continued service excellence, Gannon & Scott’s leadership team, workforce, facilities, and day-to-day operations will remain in place. This continuity is expected to maintain the high levels of service, security, and operational reliability that customers have come to expect.
Koichiro (Frank) Tanaka, Group CEO of TANAKA, welcomed the collaboration, stating, “Their partnership will create new synergies within TANAKA, further strengthening our shared commitment to sustainable and responsible precious metal refining for customers and industries worldwide.”
Riparian Partners served as the exclusive financial advisor to Gannon & Scott throughout the transaction, managing strategy, positioning, negotiation, and the diligence process. The acquisition underscores a trend of consolidation in the advanced materials, recycling, and industrial technology sectors, as global players seek specialized capabilities and scalable platforms.
