Grandview Klein Diamonds Expands African Footprint with New South African Facility

Grandview Klein Diamonds has officially opened a new, advanced diamond manufacturing facility and office in South Africa, marking a significant expansion of its production capabilities and reinforcing its commitment to local beneficiation and responsible sourcing. The inauguration took place on February 23rd, attended by company leadership and senior executives from the De Beers Group.
Strategic Investment in Beneficiation
The new facility, spanning approximately 10,000 square feet, represents a strategic investment in technical excellence at origin. It currently employs 50 highly trained professionals, contributing to South Africa’s established role in the global natural diamond value chain. This expansion strengthens Grandview Klein’s long-term commitment to processing diamonds in the countries where they are mined, thereby generating economic opportunities, skills development, and lasting value for local communities.
Moshe Klein, CEO of Grandview Klein, emphasized the company’s philosophy: “For us, beneficiation is not a contractual obligation. It is embedded in our DNA. Diamonds should generate opportunity, skills, and lasting economic value in the countries where they originate. Responsible sourcing must be matched by meaningful local participation.”
Advanced Manufacturing Technology
The South African operation incorporates cutting-edge manufacturing technologies designed to enhance efficiency, precision, and transparency. These include advanced planning systems, precision laser cutting and bruting technology, and automated polishing equipment. Such technologies are crucial for maximizing rough diamond yield, improving cutting accuracy, and ensuring compliance throughout the manufacturing process.
Grandview Klein, a triple De Beers sightholder, already operates diamond factories in Botswana and Namibia, in addition to its New York-based office and cutting facility. This new South African site joins the company’s existing African operations, further solidifying its presence in key diamond-producing regions.
Confidence in the Natural Diamond Sector
The opening of the new facility occurs at a time when the global natural diamond industry is navigating cyclical market pressures. Industry observers view continued investment in manufacturing at origin as a strong signal of confidence in the long-term prospects of the natural diamond sector. These investments underscore the vital role natural diamonds play in supporting the economies of producing nations, contributing to infrastructure, education, and healthcare.
“Our responsibility extends beyond production,” Klein added. “Natural diamonds are a critical economic engine for producing nations. Maintaining disciplined manufacturing, investing in skills, and upholding rigorous standards, especially during market downturns, is part of honoring that partnership.”
Grandview Klein operates within a robust global framework of integrity and supply chain transparency, anchored by De Beers Best Practice Principles and Responsible Jewellery Council Code of Practices certification. This new facility enhances its position as a vertically integrated manufacturing partner for the independent jewelry sector, uniting rough diamond access, beneficiation, advanced technology, and responsible production.
