A Blend of Irreverence and Refinement

Jewelry designer Edina Kiss has launched her eponymous fine jewelry line, a collection that artfully balances whimsical irreverence with refined elegance. Kiss, who began building her brand in 2024 with guidance from The Gems Project, aims to create wearable works of art that inspire individuality. Her designs are characterized by sculptural silhouettes that are both sophisticated and playfully bold.

The collection draws inspiration from a diverse range of sources, including nature, spirituality, travels, childhood memories, and dreams. Kiss’s process begins with a sketch, often centered around a chosen gemstone, followed by a clay sculpture and then CAD modeling before being crafted in New York City. Her approach emphasizes creating pieces she personally loves, encouraging wearers to embrace their own unique tastes.

Signature Pieces and Inspirations

Among the standout pieces is the 'Devil' drop earring, featuring 53.12 carats of lapis drops accented with ruby and pink sapphire in 18-karat yellow gold, retailing for $18,500. This design embodies Kiss’s philosophy of embracing chances and doing the unexpected. Kiss often styles these earrings as a single piece, paired with her 'Angelfish' drop earrings on the opposite ear, symbolizing the duality of a devil and an angel on one’s shoulders.

The 'Angelfish' drop earrings, priced at $24,500, are crafted from 42.40 carats of pink opal with pink and blue sapphires, and cognac and white diamonds set in 18-karat yellow gold. This pairing highlights the inspiration behind the 'Devil' earrings, representing the internal conflict between caution and impulse.

Kiss's initial launch includes reinterpretations of classic motifs like facial features and evil eyes, alongside original concepts such as functional 'Sunglasses' pendants. The 'Evil Eye' pendant, made of 18-karat yellow gold with a 25.57-carat chrysoprase eyeball, blue sapphire, and diamonds, is showcased on a matching 18-karat yellow gold 'Hexagon' chain, priced at $33,000 and $44,500 respectively.

Another personal favorite is the 'Side Eye' ring, featuring a substantial 36.66-carat chrysoprase with an eye motif. Kiss describes this piece as one that makes the wearer feel confident and seen, embodying her belief in the power of bold jewelry.

A Journey into Fine Jewelry

Born in Budapest, Kiss’s artistic journey began in childhood with ceramics and drawing, progressing to beaded jewelry in her teens. Her formal introduction to jewelry making came through silversmith Katalin Remènyi in Hungary. Today, she resides in Manhattan Beach, California, but her designs are crafted in New York City.

Kiss is known for her affinity for unusual materials, with a particular fondness for tourmalines, especially watermelon tourmalines, due to their unique character. She also frequently works with sapphires, rubies, opals, aquamarine, banded agate, and diamonds.

Upcoming Collections and Industry Presence

The Edina Kiss line currently comprises 35 pieces, with plans to expand significantly. The designer is set to introduce 15 to 20 new pieces at the upcoming Couture show. These new designs will be divided into two distinct collections: one inspired by summer and fun, and the other with a more serious aesthetic.

The Edina Kiss line is available through select retailers, including Marissa Collections and June Simmons Jewelry. The designer will also be exhibiting at the Couture show in Las Vegas at booth 606.
