Kutztown Institution Dunkelberger’s Fine Jewelry to Close After 79 Years

Kutztown, Pennsylvania – Dunkelberger’s Fine Jewelry, a cornerstone of the Kutztown community for nearly 80 years, is closing its doors. Owner Jim Springer, 73, is retiring, bringing an end to a long and storied history for the beloved local business.
A Legacy of Service and Quality
Established in 1947 by the Dunkelberger family, the store has been a fixture on Main Street, offering a curated selection of diamond and gemstone pieces, bridal jewelry, and watches. Jim and his wife Jane Springer purchased the business in 1990. Jane brought valuable industry experience from her time at Bailey Banks & Biddle, helping to guide the store’s continued success.
“I feel like I’m retiring on a high note,” Springer shared, expressing mixed emotions about the closure. While bittersweet about saying goodbye to loyal customers and the community, he is looking forward to a less stressful retirement and enjoying his “good years.” He hopes Dunkelberger’s will be remembered for its quality, reliability, and honest service.
Going-Out-of-Business Sale Underway
A going-out-of-business sale is currently in progress at the store, located at 281 W. Main Street. The sale offers discounts of up to 70 percent on all merchandise. Customers can find a wide array of items, from diamond engagement rings and gemstone pieces to watches, with prices ranging from approximately $100 to $10,000. The store has consistently focused on offering unique pieces that stand out, appealing to customers seeking distinctive designs.
The sale is expected to continue until all merchandise is sold, with the store anticipating closing its doors by the end of June. Regular store hours are Tuesday through Friday, 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., and Saturday, 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.
Springer expressed his gratitude to the community, stating, “Thank you for your loyalty, friendship, and support over the years.” The closure marks the end of an era for Kutztown, but Springer looks forward to embracing his retirement.
