Industry veteran Doug Hucker has retired as Chief Executive Officer of The International Colored Gemstone Association (ICA), concluding his tenure on April 22. Hucker, who has led the New York-based trade organization for nearly four years, provided strategic leadership during the post-COVID recovery period and navigated ongoing global market challenges.

A Legacy of Leadership

During his time at ICA, Hucker's leadership was characterized by a strong focus on financial discipline, the successful execution of key industry congresses and events, and fostering meaningful growth and improved engagement with ICA’s global membership. ICA President Damien Cody acknowledged Hucker’s significant contributions, stating, “Doug has made a significant contribution to ICA during a pivotal time for our industry. His experience, professionalism, and commitment have helped strengthen the association and position it well for the future. We are deeply grateful for his leadership and service.”

Hucker expressed his gratitude for the opportunity to serve the organization and its members. “It has been a privilege to serve the ICA and its members,” he said. “I am proud of what we have accomplished together during a period of significant change. These achievements reflect the collective effort of a committed board, dedicated members, and a passionate global community. I am deeply grateful for the opportunity to have worked alongside such talented and driven individuals. I am confident the Association will continue to grow and thrive in the years ahead.” Hucker is now looking forward to a well-earned retirement.

Extensive Industry Experience

Hucker’s career in the gem and jewelry industry spans several decades, marked by a deep commitment to advancing the colored gemstone sector. Before joining ICA, he served as CEO of the American Gem Trade Association (AGTA) for approximately 24 years. Earlier in his career, Hucker held positions with the Gemological Institute of America (GIA). He has also contributed to the industry through board memberships and support for various associations, including the American Gem Society (AGS), the Jewelers Vigilance Committee, and CIBJO, the World Jewellery Confederation. In recognition of his dedication, he received the Robert M. Shipley Award, AGS’s highest honor, in 2018.
