Christie's Appoints Tom Heap Senior Specialist for Watches in London

Christie's has announced the appointment of Tom Heap as Senior Specialist, Watches, based in its London office. This strategic move aims to further enhance the auction house's global presence and expertise in the market for exceptional timepieces, reinforcing its strong international position.
Enhancing Global Expertise and Client Relations
Heap's appointment underscores the continued expansion of Christie's watches category. He will collaborate closely with the international Watches team to deepen relationships with collectors, secure significant consignments, and contribute to the global sales calendar. His role is pivotal in maintaining London's central position within Christie's global Watches network, which also includes key hubs in Geneva, Hong Kong, and New York.
Remi Guillemin, Head of Watches, Europe and Americas, expressed his enthusiasm for the new hire. 'We are thrilled to welcome Tom Heap to the Christie's international Watches team,' Guillemin stated. 'His expertise across both vintage and contemporary watches and his strong client relationships make him an excellent addition to our global team.'
A Career Rooted in Horology
Heap's passion for watches ignited early, sparked by inheriting a 1970s Cartier Tank from his godfather, fostering a lifelong fascination with horology. He transitions to Christie's after a nearly five-year tenure at Sotheby's, where he served as a Specialist and later as Head of Department for Watches. During his time at Sotheby's, he led dedicated sales and contributed to major international auctions.
Prior to his roles at Sotheby's, Heap also gained experience as a watch specialist at the secondhand site Watchfinder and worked as a public relations executive. This diverse background provides him with a comprehensive understanding of the watch market.
Christie's Continued Growth in the Watch Market
Marking its 260th anniversary, Christie's continues to solidify its standing in the luxury goods market. The auction house operates globally, with a presence in 46 countries and flagship international sales hubs in New York, London, Hong Kong, Paris, and Geneva. Christie's offers a wide range of services beyond auctions, including art appraisal, financing, and international real estate.
The watches department is a significant part of Christie's business, which spans over 80 art and luxury categories. Heap's appointment is a testament to the category's ongoing growth and Christie's commitment to investing in top-tier talent to serve its discerning clientele.
