Future-Forward Redesign to Transform Omaha Flagship

Borsheims, the esteemed independent jeweler in Omaha, Nebraska, and a subsidiary of Berkshire Hathaway, has announced a comprehensive, multi-million-dollar renovation of its flagship store. The extensive project, set to commence in mid-May following the annual Berkshire Hathaway shareholders meeting, aims to reimagine the customer experience and usher the iconic retailer into a new 'Golden Era'.

Elevating the Customer Experience

The core objective of this transformation is to create a more modern, fluid, and luxurious shopping environment. Jaci Stuifbergen, director of marketing and ecommerce at Borsheims, highlighted that the renovation addresses the evolving preferences of luxury consumers. 'The way luxury consumers want to shop has evolved. For us, renovating means presenting ourselves in a modern light in order to provide our customers with the best experience possible,' Stuifbergen stated. The updated space is designed to match the elevated quality of the jewelry offered, reinforcing Borsheims' commitment to creating memorable experiences for its customers, especially for significant life events and milestones.

Design and Aesthetics

The renovation, led by Omaha-based global architecture and engineering firm HDR, with construction managed by Kiewit, will convert the 20,000-square-foot showroom into an open-concept layout. The interior design palette, dubbed 'Luxe Earth', will feature natural materials like soft stone and wood, complemented by champagne, gold, and bronze accents, and warm, sculptural lighting fixtures. A new vestibule, wrapped in bronze- and gold-finished metal panels with star-like lighting, will expand the store's usable space.

The exterior will also see a striking change, replacing the current glass entrance with a sleek façade of gold-accented perforated metal panels. This new look, along with the interior enhancements, signifies Borsheims' 'Golden Era'—a nod to both the new gold elements and the brand's enduring legacy of over 155 years.

Maintaining Operations During Renovation

Borsheims plans to remain open throughout the renovation, which is scheduled for completion by early November. The project will be executed in two phases to ensure continuous customer access. 'Birthdays, anniversaries, and big milestones don’t stop just because construction begins,' said Stuifbergen. The retailer's online business will not be affected. Notably, the renovation will not alter the Borsheims logo or its classic silver and burgundy brand colors.

A Legacy of Evolution

Founded in 1870 by Louis A. Borsheim, the store has a rich history in Omaha. Its acquisition by Berkshire Hathaway in 1989 marked a new chapter. 'For more than 155 years, Borsheims has evolved alongside our customers,' stated Borsheims President and CEO Karen Goracke. 'This renovation elevates the shopping experience while ensuring our flagship remains a locally loved, nationally relevant luxury destination.' The transformed space will showcase exceptional collections in custom-curated displays and offer enhanced private consultation areas, including dedicated spaces for engagement and wedding clients, underscoring Borsheims' commitment to personalized luxury service.
