The Accredited Gemologists Association (AGA) has announced that applications are now open for its esteemed scholarship and grant programs. These initiatives are designed to foster education and advancement within the field of gemology, supporting aspiring professionals and researchers worldwide.

AGA Gemological Scholarship Program

The AGA Gemological Scholarship Program aims to assist individuals who are dedicated to pursuing a career in gemology and require financial aid to further their education. The scholarship is awarded based on both merit and financial need, with the final selection made by the AGA Board of Governors.

Scholarships cover tuition and lab fees exclusively, with funds paid directly to the educational provider. Excluded expenses include travel, accommodation, and wire transfer fees. Applicants must possess a high school diploma or equivalent and be accepted into an AGA-recognized gemological training program. While no prior experience is necessary, a strong desire to learn and work in the gem industry is essential. Applications are open from January 1st through May 15th, 2026, at 11:59 p.m. Pacific Time. Interested candidates can apply through the AGA website, with the possibility of virtual interviews or requests for additional documentation.

AGA Gemological Research Grant

In alignment with its mission to promote gemological education and research, the AGA offers the Gemological Research Grant. This grant provides funding of up to $10,000 for approved scientific research projects directly related to gemology. To be eligible, applicants must have an established relationship with a gem research laboratory or scientific institute, possess a science degree and/or extensive experience in a related gemological field, and demonstrate English proficiency.

The grant covers essential research materials, equipment, and test specimens. The project, which must be completed within one year of fund transfer, requires quarterly progress reports to the AGA Educational Scholarship and Research Grant Committee (ESRGC). The AGA Board of Governors makes the final decision on grant awards. Applications for the research grant are open until June 15, 2027, at 11:59 p.m. Pacific Time.

Both scholarship and grant applications require professional references and a detailed project plan, budget, and potential publication strategy for research grant applicants. All communications and applications for the research grant must be in English, and the results must be presented to the AGA membership in English.

Funding for both programs comes from membership dues, sponsorships, and donations. Further details and application forms can be found on the AGA website.
